Breast modeling (lifting)

Breast lift (Mastopexy) is a surgical procedure that corrects the appearance of sagging breasts by lifting them to their natural state. The condition of breast ptosis (sagging breasts) appears when the position of the nipple shifts to the inframammary fold (crease beneath the breast) Adverse effects of aging cause women’s breasts to lose their elasticity, firmness and shape.

It is a local anesthesia procedure.

According to the patients wishes to retain the mammary gland, if the size is sufficient, the surgery consists of removing the excess skin, tightening and reshaping the breasts. Almost all gland tissue remains and resulting scars are around the areola and vertical. Women who are looking to increase the size of their breasts can combine this procedure with breast augmentation- inserting of saline or silicone implant under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. Time delay of several months is recommended with application of the implants.

After the procedure

The after-surgery procedure is similar to the reduction mammaplasties. Horizontal scar isn’t necessary by minimal mammary gland reduction and smaller rate of breast ptosis Drains are removed soon after surgery.

What should the surgery be preceded with?

The evening before surgery do not put on fatty skin cream, and immediately before treatment shave your armpits. Other recommendations are identical with those of general anesthesia procedures.

The is no such thing as risk less surgery, no surgeon can guarantee perfect success of the surgery, even though it has been carried in accordance with the latest medical knowledge . The effect of drugs, anesthetics and of the surgery itself is specific for each human body. Performed on two patient in exactly the same manner and precision does not necessarily produce the same result. Consult possible risks, surgical and post-surgical complications during the introductory consultation. A conscientious surgeon would bring these up himself.

Breast reduction

There are several approaches to breast reduction, with incisions led around the areola and vertically; large breasts required moreover an incisions in the submammary fold.

When is the surgery indicated?

Although breast reduction can be performed at any age, it is best planned for time when you no longer plan to breastfeed. Simple skin reduction may not affect the ability to breastfeed, in the majority of cases lactation is no longer possible. Patient has to be informed about such consequences. If however the inability to breastfeed has been understood and accepted, breast reductions can be performed in women before having children. Changes in scars (stretching) must be anticipated, with possible later enlargement and sagging during lactation.

Breast reduction is a general anesthesia procedure, taking 2-3 hours, depending on the breasts size. The procedure is usually performed under an antibiotic screen. Excess blood is take up by drainage.

After the procedure

Depending on the volume of blood drainage drains are removed on day 2-5, allowing the patient to leave clinic. A special elastic bra must be worn at least 4 weeks following surgery. Light subfebriles, formed from absorbing hematoma, can appear on day 2-4. Swelling and hematoma last up to 2 weeks. The sutures are removed after 12-14 days. The final result can be expected after 2-3 months after surgery, sometimes longer. Scars are usually barely visible, covered by underwear.

Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty) is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape by inserting silicone implants under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. Second most common reason for the procedure is to achieve better symmetry.

Breast augmentation is a general anesthesia procedure performed on patients over the age of 18 years. The choice of incision is based on the recommendation of the surgeon. It may be located (usually) in the crease beneath the breast, around the areola or in the armpit. The choice of size and shape of the implant will depend on preferences of the patient.

Nowadays the breasts are most enlarged by breasts implants, filled by a cohesive silicon gel. These implants can be round or, more naturally, bi-dimensional – tear-shaped implants.

The breast implant can be positioned either under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. The latter one is usually preferred as the result comes closest to naturals appearance of breasts.

After the procedure

The day after procedure the patient is bandaged and drainage introduced during surgery removed. The bandages are replaced by elastic underwear or abdominal band and the patient can continue recovering at home. The brassiere must be worn at all times for at least a months, sleeping on one’s back is recommended the first few weeks. The suture is removed 10-14 days after surgery, whereupon showers become possible again. More intense physical activities should be postponed another month. The patient should be regularly monitor in breast screening&advisory center.
